WHAT ARE COPYCAT OLIVE GARDEN BREADSTICKS?

First originating in late 17th century Italy, breadsticks, also known as grissini, grissino or dipping sticks, are named after their stick-like shape. As the tale goes, these yummy slices of bread are representative of Italian generosity. That’s definitely something we can all celebrate.

In 1982, Olive Garden opened its first store and began serving unlimited breadsticks, along with other Italian-inspired dishes. This incredible bread recipe has remained on the menu for all of those years! While the original Olive Garden recipe is only covered in butter, cheese lovers have the option to dust Parmesan cheese on top of this recipe.

If you do end up having leftover breadsticks, you can effortlessly make Homemade Croutons from Leftover Bread. Breadsticks should ideally not be refrigerated, as the bread will dry out and become stale faster than at room temperature. The bread will typically last for about 2-3 days. You can freeze the breadsticks after they are baked. However, frozen breadsticks will not be quite as soft and tender.

Ingredients for Olive Garden Breadsticks

INGREDIENTS FOR COPYCAT OLIVE GARDEN BREADSTICKS RECIPE

  • Bread Dough Rolls: Using dough rolls adds a level of flaky baked goodness and simplicity. Plus, they are ready to eat so much faster!
  • Butter: The addition of butter results in a higher rise and a crisper crust.
  • Garlic Powder: Using garlic powder rather than garlic butter helps keep the bread from being too sticky.
  • Sea Salt: For baking bread, it’s best to use non-iodized salt such as sea salt because iodized versions can impart an unpleasant flavor.
