Dill Pickle Wrap Dip

You know those dill pickle wraps? The tortillas with the dried beef, cream cheese, and the dill pickle in the middle are rolled up and sliced into little delicious “sushi roll” looking bites of yumminess. They are a hit at all of the parties, but if you have ever made them, you know they are a little tedious to make. So, I am bringing you this dip. It tastes just like those wraps but is so much easier to prepare.

This stuff is seriously addicting. As I mentioned, this dip has been on my website for a while now. I got the recipe from my niece, Leah. Since she was a little girl, dill pickles have been her favorite food on earth. I remember one year I gave her one of those huge jars of dill pickles from Costco as a gift. She loved it! So, I have her to thank for this easy three-ingredient dill pickle dip recipe. Dill pickle lovers and even non-pickle lovers devour it!

What Kind of Meat is Used in Dill Pickle Wrap Dip?

Over the years there has been a lot of talk about what to use as far as meat in pickle dip. I have only ever made this recipe with Hormel Dried Beef. I purchase it in my grocery store, by the packaged deli meats. They do have it available in glass jars, too, it’s shelf-stable and located where you would find the canned meats. I find that the jarred version is much saltier than the packaged version. So, I have always told my readers to rinse it before using it.

In many families, they make their dill pickle dip with ham. Some use leftover ham, some honey ham, or deli ham. I have also heard of people using salami, pastrami, prosciutto, or even bacon bits!

FAQ’s

  • Can this dip be frozen? I wouldn’t recommend freezing this dip.
  • What to do with leftover dip? It will keep in the fridge for about 4 days. We love it slathered on toasted bagels, and makes a great sandwich spread, too!
  • Is this dip gluten-free? My dill pickle dip recipe is gluten-free. I always serve it with some raw fresh veggies too: carrot sticks, celery, and bell peppers, for those who would prefer not to use crackers.
  • Can I use Dill Pickle Relish Instead of whole pickles? Of course! When I have dill pickle relish on hand, I have used it for this dip. It makes the process even quicker. Make sure to drain the extra liquid before adding it. Truly any kind of dill pickles you have on hand; dill pickle spears, dill pickles chips – just grab a jar of pickles you have on hand.
  • Can I use sweet pickles for this recipe? Sure you can, but the dip is going to taste entirely different using butter pickles.

Tips, Tricks and Substitutions

Remember that when it comes to making substitutions in recipes, you don’t need to be afraid to get creative and use ingredients that suit your personal taste and dietary preferences. Make it your own!

  • Want an extra creamy dip? Add a little pickle juice to the cream cheese when you whip it. Sour cream or Greek yogurt would work too, making this a perfect chip dip for potato chips, pita chips, or tortilla chips, instead of a thick dip for spreading on crackers.
  • Make a vegetarian dip by omitting the dried beef.
  • Ramp up the dill flavor with some fresh dill weed added to the dip.
  • This recipe makes a pretty big batch, but it’s easy to cut in half for smaller crowds.
  • Get the full flavor of classic dill pickle wraps quicker; wrap the dill pickle dip into tortillas for dill pickle wrap dip pinwheels.
  • Spice things up with some garlic powder, sliced green onions, or red pepper flakes.

  1. I added one green onion chopped then spread the whole mixture on a flour tortilla rolled up wrap in plastic wrap over night then slice and serve was great.

  2. What is the dried beef in a package called? I’m not familiar with that product. I bought 3 of the jars, 2.25oz each, was afraid to use more bc of the salt content. Will soak first, but not going out to buy something different. Just wondering for next time.

  3. I’ve always made my pickle rolls with hard salami. I bet any way you make it normally would worked chopped up. I’m going to try this for Christmas or New Years.

Will that work with this recipe?

    1. You could sure try it. I’ve used different meats but the dried beef in the package ( not the jar) is my favorite!!

  6. I made this and used Hormel beef, not dried beef and it is much better when you use dried beef. I wasn’t thinking. Be sure you get dried beef and the relish idea is great as long as it isn’t sweet relish

  7. My daughter and I made this a few weeks ago. Her boy friend wanted the wraps I said why don’t we just make a cheese ball with chopped pickles. We add green onions and Worcestershire sauce. It very good.

  8. Why dried beef? I’ve never worked with it or eaten it. I guess I’m missing something. I’ve always used ham for my roll ups. Square deli style. This was the first appetizer I ever learned, taught by my sister. 65 now, so I’ve been making them for years. Parties (a LOT), dinners, and just because we love them, so I make them to have.

I have always used green onions and love the combination of flavors. Many times I have also made up a couple of rolls with pickles. I went and bought ingredients today because I’m in the mood. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi, Judy! I just have always made them that way. We love dried beef. It’s a little saltier, but it’s good. Maybe give the dip a try and see what you think?

  9. I grew up enjoying these roll ups but we always used thick sliced honey ham instead of the beef. Going to try this recipe tomorrow with the ham for a new twist on a family favorite. Looking forward to it; thanks for the idea of an easy dip.
