This morning we finally used my donut pan I bought last fall. I have had this recipe stashed for over 6 months, and this morning I woke up and thought, time to make those donuts.
Are you old enough to remember that commercial? The one with the Dunkin Donuts guy? “Time to make the donuts….” as he heads out the door to work, morning after morning.
That is a common statement around here. My hubby says that a lot of times when he heads to bed early, “I have to go to bed now, I have to get up and make the donuts.” It’s like that other statement “Bring home the Bacon.” What’s with the breakfast foods? Am I right?
Here is the old commercial I am referring to.
{updated} Love Donuts? I have MORE!

I texted my hubby a picture of my donuts, and said “Look! I made the donuts today, too!” I am sure he rolled his eyes, and then he texted me back his normal “nice” response. He’s not much of a texter.
There is a standing joke around here that when you text him you will get one of two responses. “K” or “nice.” We like to add our own punctuation to the nice and see how it changes his reaction.
“NICE!” — “niiiiiiiice.” — “Nice?”
He says we are making fun of him… but we aren’t really. We are truly blessed to have him in our lives. He has always been an amazing Dad, and husband. He works hard for our family, and is a wonderful provider.
He didn’t get to enjoy one of these at 6 AM when he left, but I did have one ready for him, still warm, when he came home for lunch. I knew he would love them, because he loves anything banana!
^LOVE Them? PIN Them!^
Maybe this would be a fun thing for you and the kiddos to bake up for your hubby for Father’s Day morning? I am sure he would love them, with a piping cup of coffee and the Sunday paper.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to my hubby and ALL of the Daddies out there!
We love you and we appreciate you every day!

I love to check out your site for ideas when I am looking for some inspiration. Unfortunately, the links to Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter etc, block the content on the left side. It is particularly frustrating with the recipes. I still come back over and over because you have one of kind ideas and great recipes, plus I love the stories attached to them 😉
Michaela Kenkel says
Kara, how are you viewing my site? On a computer, mobile, tablet? When I view it, the icons you are talking about are no where near my photos or the recipe? I am curious if you can help me figure this out? I am glad you enjoy the site, that means the world to me — I want to make your experience better!
Sue says
I have same problem. I am using my kindle fire.
Michaela Kenkel says
Still? I recently moved the buttons?
Carra says
Hi! Have you tried this recipe with coconut or whole wheat flour?

sarah says

Allison says
I don’t have a donut pan, what can I do? Make them into muffins?
Michaela Kenkel says
That would totally work!
Melissa says
I made a few substitutions to make these gluten free and vegan … used an all-purpose gluten free flour mix (Bob’s Red Mill), replaced eggs with flax seed/chia/water mixture, and used rice milk to replace the regular milk. They came out really good and my kids are loving them (and I am happy they love them despite them being healthy). I made 1 doz full sized donuts and 3 fix mini donuts since I had both sized pans.
Michaela Kenkel says
Glad you were able to cater them to suit your family! 🙂
Kathleen says
These are great! I used half AP flour and half wheat flour in mine and texture was still light and fluffy. Tastes like banana bread to me and can see this recipe being very versatile w adding nuts or a glaze. Will make again 🙂
Michaela Kenkel says
So happy you enjoyed them! 🙂
Stephanie Sandbek says
Delicious!!! I couldn’t get the sugar to stick, but they were amazing without it! Thanks!
Michaela Kenkel says
Try it when they are still warm! Glad you enjoyed them!

Mmm, this sounds amazing. I love banana bread (who doesn’t?) but what a great way to twist up those flavors! Do you subscribe to Taste of the South magazine? Their January/February 2019 issue has a whole section on all these different ways to twist up the banana bread template: blondies, biscuits, fritters, etc. But no donuts, I have to make yours. 🙂

Mmmmmmm…donuts? My hacks: I used 1 cup of white flour and 3/4 c whole wheat flour and substituted unsweetened applesauce for the oil. I also eliminated the cloves in the sugar mixture and increased the cinnamon to 1 teaspoon. They turned out great! Will definitely make these donuts again. Thanks!
Michaela Kenkel says
Happy you made them your own!
Kathy says
