English muffins topped with gooey cheesy pizza goodness, baked up and served open faced.
I adapted this recipe from one I found in a small town church cookbook, my hubby loves pizza burgers, so I thought I would give them a try.
They are not a traditional “burger” because they are served open faced. The meat, sauce and cheese are mixed together and placed on top of an English muffin, then baked in the oven and served open faced.
Ooey, gooey, cheesy pizza goodness.
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt & Pepper to taste (go easy on the salt, because the cheese makes it salty, too!)
- 8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
- 8 ounces Mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
- 1 (15 ounce) can pizza sauce
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 6 English muffins, cut in half
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Brown ground beef together with onion, garlic and onion powders. Salt & pepper to taste.
Cut English muffins in half horizontally, and place them inside up on a cookie sheet.
Pre-bake muffins for 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, stir cheese, pizza sauce and oregano to beef mixture.
Divide evenly and top each of the 12 muffins.
Bake for 15 minutes, or until hot and cheese is melted.
