Dill Pickle Wrap Dip
You know those dill pickle wraps? The tortillas with the dried beef, cream cheese, and the dill pickle in the middle are rolled up and sliced into little delicious “sushi roll” looking bites of yumminess. They are a hit at all of the parties, but if you have ever made them, you know they are a little tedious to make. So, I am bringing you this dip. It tastes just like those wraps but is so much easier to prepare.
Dill Pickle Dip Recipe
This stuff is seriously addicting. As I mentioned, this dip has been on my website for a while now. I got the recipe from my niece, Leah. Since she was a little girl, dill pickles have been her favorite food on earth. I remember one year I gave her one of those huge jars of dill pickles from Costco as a gift. She loved it! So, I have her to thank for this easy three-ingredient dill pickle dip recipe. Dill pickle lovers and even non-pickle lovers devour it!

What Kind of Meat is Used in Dill Pickle Wrap Dip?
Over the years there has been a lot of talk about what to use as far as meat in pickle dip. I have only ever made this recipe with Hormel Dried Beef. I purchase it in my grocery store, by the packaged deli meats. They do have it available in glass jars, too, it’s shelf-stable and located where you would find the canned meats. I find that the jarred version is much saltier than the packaged version. So, I have always told my readers to rinse it before using it.
In many families, they make their dill pickle dip with ham. Some use leftover ham, some honey ham, or deli ham. I have also heard of people using salami, pastrami, prosciutto, or even bacon bits!
FAQ’s
- Can this dip be frozen? I wouldn’t recommend freezing this dip.
- What to do with leftover dip? It will keep in the fridge for about 4 days. We love it slathered on toasted bagels, and makes a great sandwich spread, too!
- Is this dip gluten-free? My dill pickle dip recipe is gluten-free. I always serve it with some raw fresh veggies too: carrot sticks, celery, and bell peppers, for those who would prefer not to use crackers.
- Can I use Dill Pickle Relish Instead of whole pickles? Of course! When I have dill pickle relish on hand, I have used it for this dip. It makes the process even quicker. Make sure to drain the extra liquid before adding it. Truly any kind of dill pickles you have on hand; dill pickle spears, dill pickles chips – just grab a jar of pickles you have on hand.
- Can I use sweet pickles for this recipe? Sure you can, but the dip is going to taste entirely different using butter pickles.
Tips, Tricks and Substitutions
Remember that when it comes to making substitutions in recipes, you don’t need to be afraid to get creative and use ingredients that suit your personal taste and dietary preferences. Make it your own!
- Want an extra creamy dip? Add a little pickle juice to the cream cheese when you whip it. Sour cream or Greek yogurt would work too, making this a perfect chip dip for potato chips, pita chips, or tortilla chips, instead of a thick dip for spreading on crackers.
- Make a vegetarian dip by omitting the dried beef.
- Ramp up the dill flavor with some fresh dill weed added to the dip.
- This recipe makes a pretty big batch, but it’s easy to cut in half for smaller crowds.
- Get the full flavor of classic dill pickle wraps quicker; wrap the dill pickle dip into tortillas for dill pickle wrap dip pinwheels.
- Spice things up with some garlic powder, sliced green onions, or red pepper flakes.

I have a lot of this leftover from Super Bowl Sunday. Any ideas as to what I can do with it? I’d hate to throw it out!
It makes a really good sandwich spread!! Like on bagels for lunch?
I have made this but i replace the dried beet with either bacon bits or honey ham. We always run out.
We do this, but use dill pickle relush to save time.
I have done that too! It is a good time saver for sure!
Do you think this would be good with an envelope of Ranch Dressing Mix added?
Actually it might! I’m not sure if I’d use the whole packet though? Maybe add a bit at a time. Will you let me know if it’s good?
We use to make the rolls 30ish years ago for family Christmas parties, we also used ham. I am so ready to try this as a dip. Just a note though, if you throw the pack of meat in the freezer it cuts a lot easier when frozen.
I use honey ham slices and chop them up.
Thank you for the info on the dried beef and the brand name. I try to watch my salt and probably would have bought the jar beef.
Thanks again.
Of Course, Carol!
Rye Cocktail bread would be amazing with this for a spread. Also, salmon would be good for the non-meat eaters.
I have heard of people
Using salmon! I’m happy you found something new to try!
Can you use ham? Same amt.?
Pickle relish?
I have heard of people using ham! If you use the relish, just drain some of the juice off. I think it gets too runny otherwise.
Can someone tell me the easiest way to cut up the dill pickles and meat? Do you do it by hand or do you use a food processor? I want to serve this for our Christmas and don’t want to mess it up!
Rita- I just chop with a knife. I think a good processor would be too much. You can’t mess it up! ? enjoy!!
I have always made mine with half sour pickles and pastrami, not dried beef. Something to try if you can’t find dried beef!
I used the “Buddig” brand. By the refrigerated lunch meat at Kroger.
The package of Hormel Dried Beef is 2.5 oz. You have to buy 3-4 packages to make this dip? Not very affordable??
Yes. That’s what it calls for. If you want to try it, make a smaller batch. You could use less meat, but we don’t like it that way as much.
this is out go to dip for tailgating! easy peasy and delicious… — THANK YOU!!
It does not say to but surely you chop the dill pickles-correct?
Yes! I didn’t realize it didn’t say that part?
I put garlic and pickle juice in mine to give it more flavor. Everybody loves it,!!
Can you use corn beef???
I haven’t tried that, but that would be GOOD! Love corned beef!
I have been making this awesome dip for years. I also use miracle whip blended in with the cream cheese and sprinkle garlic powder to taste. I also use dill pickle relish instead of chopping up the pickles, and just squeeze out as much of the juice as possible. Much simpler to make! Enjoy
We do this same thing with Polish Lollipops or something call them Polish Roses. The green onion wrapped in the cream cheese and dried beef. It makes a great spread, not as strong of an onion taste in your mouth.
I need to look into these!! I am Polish and I haven’t tried that!
I remember my mom adding garlic powder and a bit of pickle juice too. So delicious!
