My Favorite Snow Ice Cream Recipe
I actually have two snow ice cream recipes on my website, but this one is the original. The other recipe uses sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. That recipe is best when you pop it in the freezer for a couple of hours. This one is best when it’s eaten immediately.
This recipe uses milk, so technically, I would call it “ice milk.” I remember the first time I made this recipe. It was in Mrs. Hallstrom’s first-grade class.
We had gotten a whole bunch of snow and our teacher let us make it in class. She wrote the recipe down for all of us, and I still have it.

Is Snow Ice Cream Safe to Eat
As long as you are gathering your snow from a clean and safe area, then the answer is YES! New, clean, fluffy white snow is the best for making snow ice cream.
Obviously, don’t gather it by the street or scrape down to the ground to get the snow. Take it from the top, or even better, leave a big bowl outside when the snow starts, to gather the snow.
Other Ice Cream recipes
I love making homemade ice cream, and I have quite a few other recipes. Some of the ice cream recipes use an ice cream maker, some are a “no-churn” method. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Pineapple Dole Whip
- Copy Cat Baskin Robbins Daiquiri Ice
- Snow Ice Cream 2 (pictured above – uses sweetened condensed milk)
- Grape Nut Ice Cream
- Lemon Ice Cream
My kids love to top it with Hot Fudge Sauce!

Love the recipe reminded me of days long ago. We did use canned evaporated milk instead of whole milk when I was a child.
This is perfect timing as we have so much snow right now. Love that it can be customized to one’s flavor preference! YUM!
This is such a fun recipe. Love making it with the kiddos.
This is such perfect timing to find your post! It’s been snowing here and I know the kids will love this! How creative!
