I first made this pie back in 2014, when I was a participant in a group called the Secret Recipe Club.  Each month we cooked/baked from another blog in secret, then we revealed our creations on the same day.  It was fun! This peanut butter pie recipe came from a blogger named Andrea.

I knew right away I wanted to make it. Because, well, the peanut M&M’s are my favorite in the M&M family.

Peanut M&M Peanut Butter Pie… with a twist

All M&Ms are fun, and I guess they earned a special reputation from rock stars. Van Halen demanded only green M&Ms in their dressing room from promoters. Why green M&Ms? Well let’s just say before there was a little blue pill for the libido, there was the green M&M.

Now we all know that is the stuff of urban legend, and there is no real reason to go buy bags of M&Ms just to pick out a bunch of green ones. Not unless you just happen to love the color green.

The green M&M’s were always my favorite, too.  Not sure why, as it’s not like green is my favorite color or anything.  I just always liked them.

Tons Of M&Ms To Choose From

Nowadays, you can find all sorts of varieties of M&Ms. You are not limited to just chocolate or peanut covered in chocolate. There are coffee mocha M&Ms, white chocolate M&Ms, peanut butter, pretzel, caramel, crispy, dark chocolate, almond.

In short, I would be surprised if three new types appeared before you finish reading this.

So, you don’t have to choose peanut M&Ms but I just love them and of course, they work great to top a peanut butter pie!

What is your favorite kind of M&M?

Oreo Crust For Peanut Butter Pie

I love cookie crust on pies, and the idea of adding the M&Ms to the Oreos intrigued me.

After pulsing the cookie crumbs for the pie crust, you add the peanut M&M’s to the food processor and pulse them slightly. Don’t you just love the colorful crumbs?

Mix the crumbs with melted butter and press into a pie plate.  Even after it’s pre-baked the crust still looks colorful. So fun!!

While your pie crust cools, cream together peanut butter and cream cheese.

Add in the powdered sugar, mix to combine.  Then the whipped topping is folded in.

Spread into the pie crust. Cover and chill for a few hours, or even overnight.

Top with more roughly chopped peanut M&M’s before serving.

A couple of weekends ago, we attended the annual Super Bowl party at my brother and sister-in-laws.  I brought my Little King Salad (it’s like a hoagie sandwich in a bowl) and then I brought dessert.  I brought my favorite chocolate cake and this pie.

My great-nephews LOVED it.  Colton is wearing some of his here.  But that didn’t mean he didn’t ask for another piece right away.  He and his older brother, Hunter, thought it was really yummy.  I told them they could have the leftovers.

For a bit, I was the “Cool Aunt” for sure.

When my niece picked them up at daycare the next day, the teacher told her that Hunter said he was having the pie for dinner that night.  I think he got it for dessert instead.

My most favorite cookie! My Mom’s Peanut Butter Cookies: Grandma Jane’s Peanut Butter Cookies

When I was growing up, peanut butter was for PB&J sandwiches or cookies, my mom didn’t cook much with it. Now I know that peanut butter ain’t just for bread anymore, friends!

I love it in sauces for things like Pad Thai Wonderpot or this Thai Chicken Bowl. It’s delicious in these other recipes that use peanut butter in a savory way: Creamy Pasta with Butternut Squash and Green Onions, Spring Roll BowlsSoy Seared Cod Tacos with Spicy Slaw, Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce, and these Saucy Sesame Peanuts Noodles

Of course, baking with it is always a winner!
