APPLE PIE EGG ROLL INGREDIENTS
Scroll down to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post to find the complete measurements and directions for making this easy recipe.
- Egg roll wrappers – you can find these refrigerated in your grocery store, often in the produce section near the tofu.
- Apples – you can really use any type of baking apple, but you’ll want to choose a variety that is firm and crisp such as Granny Smith apples. Other types that would work well are Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, and Braeburn.
- Lemon juice – fresh squeezed is always best
- Sugar – I use granulated white sugar but you could substitute brown sugar
- Salt
- Flour – I use all-purpose white flour
- Apple pie spice – this spice mixture is often a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Or you can make your own.
- Water
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Optional: powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar for dusting and caramel sauce for dipping. Here’s a link to my decadent Salted Caramel Sauce.
HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER APPLE PIE EGG ROLLS
Easy apple pie egg rolls will be ready to eat in no time and you will be enjoying this delicious dessert!
FIRST: Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees
SECOND: Dice your apples and stir together with the lemon juice, flour, apple pie spice, sugar, and salt. Toss until the apples are coated and set aside.
THIRD: Fill each egg roll wrapper with 1/10th of the apple mixture. With one corner facing you, place filling in the center of the wrapper, just below the center of the egg roll wrapper.
Fold the bottom up and over the mixture. Moisten the other 3 edges with water using a pastry brush. Fold in one side and then the other, then roll upward to seal the top corner of the egg roll.
FOURTH: Spray the inside of the air fryer basket with non-stick cooking spray, and arrange egg rolls in a single layer. Spray the top of them with non-stick cooking spray.
Cook for 5 minutes, or until golden brown. Flip them over, and spray with cooking spray once more. Cook for another 5 minutes, or until golden brown.
FIFTH: Dust with a cinnamon sugar mixture or powdered sugar and serve with caramel sauce.

Is there a substitute for egg roll wrappers?
- Spring roll wrappers – These are similar to egg roll wrappers, but will make for a thinner and crispier outer layer
- Wonton wrappers – These are pretty much the same as egg roll wrappers, just smaller. You will have to adjust the amount of filling and you will probably be able to make twice as many.
- Gyoza wrappers – These are similar in size to wonton wrappers, but they are round in shape. The end result will look less like an egg roll and more like an empanada.
- Premade crepes – These have similar ingredients to egg roll wrappers, but may not fry up as crispy. Let me know if you try this!
- Flour tortillas – This would be the least recommended substitute, as they would be trickier to seal. They are much thicker than egg roll wrappers, but would probably fry up well. I’d be curious to find out your experience with this substitute.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
- You can substitute fresh pears for the apples for a new spin on this dessert
- For a shortcut version, you can use canned apples. Just make sure you get plain ones and use the recipe seasoning for best results. It would also be fun to try other canned fruit pie filling such as peaches or cherries
- You can substitute pumpkin pie spice for the apple pie spice
- There are many substitutes for sugar. You can try coconut sugar, agave nectar, fruit concentrate, maple syrup, or honey
I Don’t have an Air Fryer Can I still Make these Apple Pie Egg Rolls?
If you don’t have an air fryer you can fry them the traditional way in a heavy-bottomed stock pot or dutch oven. Add 3-4 inches of oil to your stock pot or dutch oven. Set over medium-high heat and attach a deep-fry thermometer to the side. Once the oil reaches 360°F, fry in batches of 3 to 4 egg rolls. Turn the egg rolls occasionally until golden brown. Remove the egg rolls from the oil and transfer them onto a baking sheet lined with paper towels. Repeat the frying process with the remaining egg rolls.
TIPS & TRICKS For Making the Best Air Fryer Egg Rolls
- Place a damp paper towel over the top of the egg roll wrappers while you are making them – keeps them from drying out.
- To make your egg rolls extra crispy, you will spray them with nonstick cooking spray. Alternatively, you can brush the egg rolls with vegetable oil before placing them in the air fryer.
- If you happen to have leftover apple pie egg rolls, store them in the fridge in an airtight container or zip-top storage bag. They will last for 3-4 days in the fridge.
- You can reheat egg rolls in the microwave, however, they will be crispier if you use a toaster oven or air fryer again.
