What goes better with a donut than coffee? I would have to say nothing.
Everyone has a favorite donut, am I right? What’s yours? Mine is by FAR double chocolate.
Recently, Omaha has been (finally) getting Dunkin’ Donut shops around town. We are THRILLED, because, there just isn’t anything like them. Even as a kid, their commercials were always my favorite – “Gotta Make the donuts …” my hubby still says that at least once a week when he’s off to work, and no, he doesn’t really make donuts for a living. The location I stop at is the new one located on about 162nd and Maple Street. The customer service is always great, and everyone is always very pleasant. Sometimes we stop for donuts, sometimes I just grab a coffee on the way by, because Dunkin’ Donuts coffee is the BEST — it’s my rocket fuel! 😉
This week, I stopped to try their new Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sandwich. It’s a hearty new breakfast sandwich made with two Belgian Waffles, which feature deep ridges and a golden brown exterior, sandwiching cherry wood smoked bacon, egg and American cheese. (and a cup of coffee – of course!) Guess what? I picked one up about 1 P.M. – Dunkin’ Donuts full menu, including breakfast items are available all day!
Have you heard about the new Dunkin’ Donuts “Savor the Flavor” mobile game? It features a virtual scratch card that fans can try their hand at once per day starting August 24 through September 30, 2016. Two lucky grand prize winners will get one year of free breakfast sandwiches. Additional daily prizes include a $5 mGift (virtual DD Card) for one sandwich, or a $10 mGift for two sandwiches.
While grabbing my Belgian Waffle Breakfast Sandwich, I, of course, picked up a dozen donuts, too. The kids were excited to have one after school, then again in the morning. I decided it was time to take the yumminess of my favorite donut, the Double Chocolate, and make something magical for you all.
The Coffee & Donuts Ice Cream cake was born!
Guess what? It only has TWO ingredients! Double Chocolate Dunkin’ Donuts and coffee ice cream!
You need six Dunkin’ Donuts Double Chocolate Donuts and 1.5 quart of coffee ice cream. Cut each donut, horizontally in three pieces. Line a loaf pan with plastic wrap and cover the bottom with donuts, breaking them in pieces to make them cover the bottom. Top with a layer of ice cream, then a layer of donuts, then ice cream, donuts then ice cream. You will have three of each layer when you are done. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze at least 24 hours. Unwrap, remove from pan, plate and slice. You can serve with whipped cream and chocolate if you want to make it a little fancier presentation, but it’s not necessary. Switch up the donut flavors if you want, too!
It’s an easy but pretty dessert that anyone who loves coffee and donuts will enjoy!

What a fun way to use up some donuts. I am not really a donut fan, expect for Apple Cider donuts. But I would gladly eat this cake.
Michaela Kenkel says
That would be a great combination with some cinnamon ice cream! 😉
