Why Are They Called Seven Layer Bars?
A lot of people call these cookies seven layer bars because of they are layered with seven different ingredients that are magical together. Makes perfect sense, right?
Ingredients in Seven Layer Cookies
Butter: Feel free to use either salted or unsalted butter for this recipe.
Chocolate Chips: I used semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you can easily use dark or milk chocolate chips.
Butterscotch Chips: A great addition to these wonderful cookies, giving them that perfect holiday vibe when you need it, too.
Sweetened Condensed Milk: Feel free to use coconut condensed milk.
Pecans: I love that this recipe has pecans–they’re the best parts! But, you can easily substitute with your favorite nuts such as almonds, walnuts, peanuts, etc.
Coconut: You’ll want to use sweetened shredded coconut for those classic nutty flavors that pair so well with the butterscotch and chocolate chips.
Graham Crackers: Graham cracker crumbs are used to create a nice buttery layer that is soft and baked to perfection. The graham cracker layer is one of my favorite parts about this recipe!
