I am what you call sappy.  I love everything about romance and love.  I guess you could say I love LOVE. Valentine’s Day has been my favorite holiday my whole life.  Most kids couldn’t wait for Santa, I couldn’t wait to design my Valentine box to hold all of those cards from my friends.

Ingredients

For the donuts:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For the Chocolate glaze:

  • 1 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • big pinch salt
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Donut toppings sprinkles, sugar crystals, etc

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees and spray your donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • To make the donuts: Whisk together all of your dry ingredients, set aside. In another bowl whisk together wet ingredients. Pour the wet into the dry and mix to incorporate. Spoon batter into prepared pan, filling each section about 2/3 full. Bake for 10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let donuts cool in pan for about 5 minutes, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.
  • For the Glaze: Whisk together glaze ingredients (minus the sprinkles) pour into a shallow bowl to make "dunking" easier. Dunk the top of the donut into the glaze and place back on wire rack to set. Hint: if glaze begins to thicken too much, microwave for a couple of seconds, whisk and it'll be much easier. Sprinkle donuts with sugar or sprinkles while wet if desired.

  1. Oh my goodness, THANK YOU. I got the donut baking pan for my birthday and I’ve been flubbing every attempt at making donuts until I tried your recipes. Yesterday we tried your lemon glazed donuts (fabulous!) and tonight we made the double chocolate. More than half of them have been eaten already and they came out every bit as beautiful as the photos. I’m delighted and my family is begging for more! You are my hero!

    1. Melissa!! I am blushing!! This is the sweetest comment, thank you SO MUCH!! I have lots of donut recipes you can work your way through! 😉 I can’t wait to hear which is your favorite! Keep me posted! Hugs, Michaela
