Well, this recipe is no exception, it’s easy, not to mention healthy, and easily modified based on what you’ve got on hand in the fridge or freezer. Feel free to swap the fruit, nut butter, or milk based on your preference. No need to invest in a high-speed blender either, any old blender will work just fine.

  • Frozen blueberries: Freeze fresh blueberries or use frozen.
  • Frozen pineapple chunks: Freeze fresh pineapple or pick up a bag of frozen at the grocery store.
  • Banana: The riper the fresh banana the better. Ripe bananas add a natural sweetness. 
  • Nut butter: You can use almond, peanut, or cashew. 
  • Flax seeds: Make sure to use ground flax seeds. 
  • Yogurt: Use plain Greek yogurt for extra creaminess, vanilla Greek yogurt is an option if you want a sweeter smoothie. Or use a plant-based yogurt, preferably Greek style.  
  • Milk: Dairy or plant-based are both options. Unsweetened almond milk is always a good option. 
  • Sweetener: Honey or maple syrup, optional, add based on your sweetness preference.
  • Ice cubes: Optional, for an extra thick smoothie.

How to make a blueberry pineapple smoothie

You’ll need to pull out the blender to whip up this blueberry pineapple smoothie recipe.

If you haven’t already, freeze the blueberries and pineapple chunks overnight. This will give your smoothie a thick and frosty texture.

In a blender, add the frozen blueberries, frozen pineapple chunks, and the peeled banana. Pour in the milk (dairy or plant-based) to achieve your desired consistency.

Add the nut butter (almond, peanut, or cashew) and ground flax seeds to the blender. Blend until the mixture is creamy and well incorporated.

Add the plain or vanilla yogurt to the blender. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Taste the smoothie and add honey or maple syrup if desired. Blend again to incorporate the sweetener.

Optional: Add ice cubes if you prefer an even thicker consistency. 

You can store leftovers in the freezer in a mason jar or glass container for up to one week. To thaw, place in the fridge until softened. You can place it back in the blender to remix for a smooth and creamy consistency.
