This Key Lime Pie Smoothie will have you feeling like you’re starting your day on vacation. A creamy smoothie with the flavors of a key lime pie, right down to the graham cracker crust!

Whether you are enjoying this smoothie for breakfast, lunch or a snack, it’s a game changer!

Whether we like it or not, summer is coming to an end.  My kids already start school next week! I remember when I was a kid, we were off from Memorial Day until Labor Day, do you remember that? Their time for summer break seems to get shorter every year.

This year is a bit of a nail biter at our house.  We are sending our last kiddos off to high school.  Our twins will begin their Freshman year next Thursday.  They have attended the same school for the last 11 years.  From Pre-School until eighth grade at a Catholic school here in our home town.  This year, they will attend one of the public high schools here.  It’s always a big transition for the kids that go to school like that for their whole lives.  They all scatter between different schools, some public and some parochial. You go from that tight knit bunch that is more like family, to a big school full of unfamiliar faces.

Our twins this past April in Washington DC

I have no doubt they will excel, just as they have all their lives, but I also know that attending that big school where you hardly know anyone has to be a little daunting.   As a mom, I get nervous, too, but I have the confidence they will continue to always make good choices and make us proud.

Another thing I can be sure of?  They will head out the door, with something in their tummy that will keep them satisfied until lunch.  Like most kids, mine LOVE smoothies.  Whether they are fruit filled, protein packed or fiber rich .. they are consumed here on a regular basis.  I wanted to come up with one that would wow them, and I think I achieved my goal.

Plus, these smoothies are  made with ingredients mom can feel good about.  You know that, because Horizon® Organic Milk and Horizon Yogurt are included.

A cold glass of Horizon® organic milk is a good choice for your family.  Horizon’s milk comes from cows  that are raised on farms that follow sustainable organic practices.  These cows are never given growth hormones or antibiotics.

Horizon® organic Yogurt contains live and active cultures. It’s available in five delicious flavors: blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, key lime and vanilla.   Each 6 ounce yogurt cup is kid-approved and  is perfect in a lunchbox or as an after school snack.

Making these smoothies is easy.  It’s just a quick trip to your local Walmart,  for the ingredients, and you are well on your way!

Simply blend together one vanilla, one key lime flavored yogurt with some ice, raw honey, frozen banana, fresh lime juice and zest and some Horizon Organic Milk.

Frozen bananas are the perfect addition to many smoothies.  They help to thicken and give smoothies that creamy texture.  I never throw ripe bananas away, I just pop them in the freezer.

How To: Freeze and Use Ripe Bananas

Pour into a glass rimmed with graham cracker crumbs …

… and top with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of graham cracker crumbs and lime zest.

Hand them over and watch the smile creep across their faces.  Hey, make one for yourself.  You deserve it.

    1. This smoothie was so unbelievably delicious – it tasted just like a key lime pie but I loved how much healthier it was for me! It will be making a regular appearance at our breakfast table I’m sure! 🙂
