What’s Texas Trash Dip? It’s a creamy warm bean dip packed with flavor and topped with all sorts of ooey gooey cheese, baked to dipping perfection. I could make a meal out of this dip!
I truly have no idea where the name of this dip came from or why it’s called “trash” when clearly it’s full of nothing but ooey-gooey cheesy GOODness. I have seen it everywhere, from Pinterest to just about every church cookbook.
Some versions differ slightly, but this is the one we are fond of. I mean, what’s not to love? Refried beans, cream cheese, sour cream, taco seasoning and lots of CHEESE!
This is a go-to for me when we have company over, or when I need to take something to a get-together. What makes it easy is you can whip it up way ahead of time, using a disposable foil baking dish and there is no mess when you’re done. Nothing to clean up, once the last little bit of dip is gone, simply recycle the pan, done and done!
Box Tops for Education:
Hefty® and Reynolds® are always there when you need them, and now you can save your school and your kitchen at the same time! I am sure, by now, you have heard about Box Tops for Education?
So many products we purchase every day have that little clip-able box top square, and collecting them is so easy, and beneficial to our kids’ schools!
We are seasoned pros when it comes to clipping the box tops from the products we use all of the time. Box Tops for Education is one of America’s largest school earnings loyalty programs and has contributed millions of dollars to participating schools since the launch of the program in 1996.
There are no stipulations on what the schools spend money on. Each box top is worth 10 cents to your school, let me tell you, that adds up FAST. We keep a little plastic container in one of our kitchen drawers, and clip them off as the products are used, drop them in, and take them to school when the container gets full.
Our school has used the money from box tops for everything from playground equipment to computers.
^^ LOVE IT? PIN IT!! ^^
We had some family over for a pool day a couple of weeks ago, and I whipped up this bean dip that morning, and popped it in the oven that afternoon for a poolside snack. To say it didn’t last long would be an understatement! But it never does.

I can’t wait to try this recipe! I’m planning to make it for an eclipse party next week. I’m wondering if you’ve ever added enchilada sauce before baking (under that top layer of cheese). I think we’d like the bite of the sauce, but am not sure if adding that would make it too “soupy”.
I have never tried that, but I think it sounds yummy! If you try it will you let me know how it goes?
Smash hit! I’ve added diced green chiles to this (4-8 oz) and substituted the monterey jack with pepper jack and use sharp cheddar cheese.
Green chile fan here 🙋🏼♀️! I love that you lovd it and that you made it your own! Thanks, Greg!
My friend sent me a recipe for a different version of this and it looked terrible to me. So I did a Google search and found this recipe. I really never tried anything like this but it just looked delicious. I made it for my birthday as an appetizer. It was gone before I could try it. So I went back home and made another pan. I chose to eat my dip with Fritos. It was absolutely the best homemade bean dip I had ever had. A million thank you for this recipe
I have noticed that there are many “new” recipes for this dip circling. This classic is my go-to bean dip – and yes, it’s like you blink and it’s gone! I really appreciate your kind comment and I hope that you had a magnificent birthday, Tanisha!
Can you make this in a crock pot? If so how long would you set it for?
I actually made this in a crock pot a couple of weekends ago. (Spray the bottom!) I kind of mixed in the cheese that is sprinkled on top too. I set mine on low and it was ready in a couple of hours. I will be honest and say that I preferred it in the oven – but it was super easy this way, and there wasn’t any left!
