Cocoa sugar cookies with a slight hint of Crown Royal Flavor will tickle the taste buds of anyone that tries them. This Vanilla Crown Royal Cookies recipe is a simple drop cookie that comes together in no time. This delicious soft cookie tastes incredible and would be a fantastic addition to any cookie tray.
To say that our family is a fan of Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey would be an understatement. A bottle of Crown Royal is ever-present at family gatherings and the go-to for cocktails. A few years back, my brother-in-law sent me a recipe from the famous purple Crown Royal box for Crown Royal Cookies. I have been playing around with it, and we have found that this is our preferred way to make Crown Royal Cookies.
My take on Crown Royal’s original recipe uses brown sugar and granulated sugar, and a bit more vanilla by using Vanilla Crown Royal. I also like to roll my cookies in homemade vanilla sugar before I bake them.
What is a Crown Royal Cookie?
Crown Royal Whisky cookies are soft, chewy, drop cookies made with the addition of Crown Royal whiskey. Adding alcohol to cookies gives them a new dimension of flavor.
If you’ve never added liquor to your cookies before, what are you waiting for? You’d be surprised at the extra flavor the liquor brings to the recipe.
This recipe for Royal Crown Cookies is perfect for family get-togethers, book club meetings, or just a special treat to have on those days when you need something sweet. These cookies freeze really well so any leftovers can be stored for a few months.

For complete measurements and instructions, please scroll down to the printable recipe card.
- Butter – these cookies use one stick of butter. I prefer to bake with unsalted butter but you could substitute salted if that’s all you have in your fridge. It is best to let the butter come to room temperature before baking with it.
- Cocoa powder – for baking purposes, I always use unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Granulated and brown sugar – in this recipe I use a combination of white and brown sugars.
- Eggs – any kind of eggs will work in this recipe though I typically use large eggs.
- Vanilla extract -pure vanilla extract is best but imitation will also work.
- Homemade Vanilla Sugar for rolling – this vanilla sugar really takes the taste of these cookies up a notch.
- Crown Royal Vanilla Whiskey – I use vanilla-flavored whiskey in this recipe. If you don’t have the vanilla flavor on hand you can substitute the regular Crown Royal whiskey and add a bit more vanilla extract. You could also make these cookies with Crown Apple, Crown Royal peach, Salted Caramel Crown or even Crown Royal Maple Whiskey. Make them your own!
- All-purpose flour – all-purpose flour, a pantry staple is best for these cookies.
- Baking soda – baking soda helps these cookies to rise ever so slightly.
- Salt – a pinch of salt enhances the flavor of these cookies. Any kind of finely ground salt will do.

What a tasty cookie recipe. I can’t believe there is crown Royal on it!
Such a perfect cookie. Great for holiday parties.
The delicious warm flavor perfectly balances with the flavor of (unsweetened) cocoa powder! Yum!
Between these and the rum balls, the holidays are sure shaping up to be happy!
Can children eat these. I know some things when baked are safe.
As mentioned in the post, there is no guarantee that ALL of the alcohol will be cooked from them, but the amount is small. The cookies don’t “taste” like alcohol. Please use your own discretion.
How many of those mini bottles of Crown Royal will it take to equal 1/2 cup? These sound extraordinary!
2 mini bottles! You reminded me that I wanted to add this to the post – thank you for that! 🙂
