Cinco de Mayo is just right around the corner.  Celebrate with this Margarita Dip with Salted Pretzels!  Your favorite cocktail, now a dip! Time to break out the tequila because it’s party time!  Every year, you can bet that we will be partaking in our favorite Mexican fare on Cinco de Mayo.

Mexican food has always been my favorite. When I was pregnant with my first child, it was all I craved, and the hotter the better. My Mother-in-Law told me my baby would be born bald, because all of that heat was sure to burn its hair off!! Yikes! How’s that for an old wives’ tale?  He was born with a perfect little head and just the right amount of hair. What did happen, though, was, he loves Mexican food and he eats it even hotter than I do!

Easy Margarita Dip Recipe

This dip isn’t overly sweet. That’s what I liked most about it.  The flavor of the tequila comes through but isn’t overpowering. The lime zest makes it so fresh and delicious.

The margaritas that I make here at home are actually a copy cat recipe from a restaurant close by us called El Bee’s. They are seriously potent, but SO GOOD!

Margarita Dip

I first posted this recipe back in 2019, and it’s been a favorite here in our home ever since. It was part of a blog hop called Freaky Friday that I used to host. Those days have long gone by, but I remain friends with so many of the bloggers who used to participate. This recipe comes from my friend, Jennifer.  She is my tequila-loving friend and the mastermind behind one of my favorite food blogs, Take Two Tapas.

She had lots of margarita-inspired recipes to choose from:  Margarita Bars, Spicy Margarita Shrimp Skewers, Mango Margaritas, or this Margarita Beer Shandy Cocktail. In the end, it was her Margarita Dip recipe that won out.

What to Serve with Margarita Dip?

I kinda have a thing for salt, so in my opinion, the salted pretzels work perfectly with this dip. Arrange store-bought pretzels around the serving dish and ta-da! No muss, no fuss. If you want to get a little more creative, you could make your soft pretzels to serve with it. They are easier to make than you might think. Or serve with soft pretzel bites or in a soft pretzel bread bowl, and go all out!

However, if a sweet dessert-style dip is what you crave, consider serving this dip with cinnamon sugar tortilla chips, fresh fruit, angel food cake, or graham crackers. It’s lovely that way, too!

How to Make Margarita Dip

This cream cheese dip recipe comes together quickly and easily with simple ingredients and little effort.

  1. Oh my goodness. What a PERFECT dessert for this coming weekend… or any weekend… or weeknight. We love margaritas, though they’re always dangerous, and I cannot wait to make this dip! I love the addition of salted pretzels with it, too.

  2. Would this dip be safe for people under the age of 21? I’m concerned because of 2 teenagers being at my home for Cinco de Mayo.

  3. So excited to make this for our vacation to eat with some margaritas! My grand daughter would love this dip, she is 4, how could I make part of this recipe safe for her so she doesn’t get left out?

  4. I made this for a Mexican themed birthday party. Everyone thought it was a bit too sweet.
I think if I were to make it again I would cut down on the sugar and add a bit of lime juice.

  5. It sure is frustrating going to read the comments and most people only say they can’t wait to try it! That it sounds so good! I really don’t care that people want to try some thing. I like to hear their opinion after they have already made it, you know? Good grief.
