As crazy as it seems, this actually works. I have been using this technique for years, and it really works just like the callus remover they use at a salon.
This DIY at home pedicure uses Listerine Mouthwash as the main ingredient … Does it work? You bet it does!! Crazy, right?
Seriously?
Who thinks of this stuff?
I mean … who sits around thinking “I wonder what would happen if I put banana on my face?
Would it work like botox?”
i.e.: Banana Botox Mask
Or … “what if I soak my feet in Listerine? — will they not only be minty fresh, but callus free?”
I’m not sure who thinks of it, but I am here to tell you that when it works?
AWESOME!!
I am the queen of going barefoot.
I go from Ugg boots to barefoot, and vice versa.
If I’m not in my running shoes, that’s me.
I am not going to gross you about with foot talk, though, because honestly, feet totally gross me out.
I mean, even my kids’.
Once they get past that cute little kissable baby foot, and start running around and getting sticky, they can kinda just keep them to themselves.
It took me a whole lot of years to even go get a pedicure somewhere, because the thought of someone wanting to TOUCH my feet? gross.
Now, I got over that, and I do love to get pedicures, but I’m not crazy about the expense.
I reserve it for a treat a couple of times a year.
So, in between, I do my own, because I HATE to not have my toenails polished.
When I ran across countless posts of foot scrubs, I thought I would give this one a whirl over the winter.
And by golly, it works!
(you’ll have to trust me on this though, and try it for yourself, because I am so not putting a photo of my feet on the world wide web. again, gross.)

At home beauty treatments are fun!! My daughters and I love to try new ones when we have girls night in. One year for Christmas I made homemade sugar scrubs for my kids’ teachers and for my friends. They were a huge hit. I made peppermint ones, but you could use the formula with any scent.

DIY Pedicure at Home - Listerine Foot Soak - Callus Remover
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Listerine I used blue but any will work
- 1/2 cup white vinegar
- 1 cup warm water
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in a shallow pan or basin. Soak your feet for 15 minutes.
- With a brush or pumice rub the dead skin right off. I usually just hop in the shower for this part.
- The blue Listerine will turn your feet blue, but it comes right off in the shower while you're removing skin.
- Apply lotion.
- Voila!
I am so trying this! My feet are a hot mess right now lol! Pinning!
I DOES REALLY WORK!! I was skeptical but I did it yesterday and my feet came out sooo smooth. Thank you..
Glad you were successful!! Thanks for coming by to visit! 🙂
Hmmm, wonder if I have time to do this before the weekend. Pinning 🙂
It works!!
I don’t have Listerine on hand, will Crest mouthwash work?
Debbie, I really don’t know? I have never used anything other than Listerine for this. Something tells me it has something to do with the “medicated” style of mouthwash that Listerine is? If you try it and it works, let me know!
WOW this is actually fabulous. I give myself a mani/pedi once every week or two and use a pumice stone regularly and I have never seen that much skin come off my feet! So amazing and they feel great!
Hi Michaela, I just came across this listerine pedicure. I’m like you, always barefoot. Which is so healthy. Everyone should do some “earthing”. Connecting with the planets energy is one of the things I think keeps me healthy. That and “The Chopped” 😉 I’m am going to do this very soon. Listerine in on my shopping list. Pinned!
I just did this and honestly….couldnt tell a difference between doing this and just doing a normal foot soak with some epsom salt. I read all sorts of reviews saying how much easier this makes it to get the dead skin off and to me, it was just a waste of money because i had to scrub/file just as much as i do when i the Listerine & Vinegar arent in the water.
Looks promising! Did you have a hard time taking the blue color out? Would love to try this out as I have had cracked heels. Wouldn’t want to go for the cracked heels balm/gel as I am looking for 100% natural method.

It came right off in the shower. The last time I bought the yellow Listerine and it isn’t as staining.
Didn’t work for me. Maybe my feet were too far gone. I must say that it did leave my feet soft and fresh.
Try this next time, slather Vaseline on your feet then put socks on for a couple of hours BEFORE you do it. Then maybe it’ll come off easier?
I just completed this remedy and I’m amazed!! It didn’t completely take it all off but a good amount came off. I will do another soak come mid-week!! Thanks for sharing!
It really works well! It surprised me, too the first time!! I have been putting Vaseline on my feet then covering up with socks for a couple of hours before I do it, it comes off even easier!
Going to try this & pray it works, my feet are a hot mess & my tiny feet r the favorite part of my body. Let u know when I’m done how good it works
Can I use apple cider vinegar ?
I have never tried it? I don’t see why not?
It actually works. I usually soak for fifteen to twenty minutes. If the dead skin is thick with deep cracks, I would recommend doing it three times the first week and then once weekly.
Can u do it without the vinegar?
No. You need all of the components.
I need to try in need of a pedi and no money
It works great!!
Hi Michaela! I had to have tarsal tunnel syndrome surgery on both feet. My right foot on January 10th and my left on March 28th. It’s like carpal tunnel syndrome but in your feet. Any way, the stitches had to stay in for 4 weeks! AND I couldn’t change the bandages. Every week I would go to see my doctor and he would change the bandages and remind me not to get them wet and not to take them off. Needless to say my feet have been so gross since then. Dry skin and callouses all built up. I’ve never really had a problem with callouses on my feet. They’ve always been soft. I am going to try this ASAP! Crossing my fingers!
Dawn .. I have never heard of that. I am hopeful you are healing quickly, and that this is a nice treat at the end of your recovery!
Great idea, aren’t they colored the toenails area, or if I washed it directly after soaking it removes the color stain as well? It caught my interest I haven’t tried anything on my feet though I don’t have callouses either. The reason why is that I want to share it with my sisters and friend who have to deal with callouses, I want to make it sure before I suggest it to them.
I haven’t used it for yellowing of toenails – only for calluses.
Can’t wait to try the foot stuff. I thought I was the only one who was phobic about feet, and it’s good to know it’s not just me! Thanks so much . I’m trying to get my poor feet in good enough shape for a pedicure. Pretty silly, but I’m sure you would understand. However, I won’t be sending any photos! ❤️
Christine
I totally get it!! There is nothing more embarrassing than to have them comment about how bad they are when you are getting a pedicure!! LOL!! I hope you like the way this works!
I’m really excited to make this for my partner. We’ve just ordered a slew of things online to help, if only I had found this sooner. I’m quarantine we have all the time in the world to do tons of self care. All our feet will be minty fresh when this is over. Thanks for the recipe!
I just gathered my stuff together to do mine today, too!! It’s amazing how well it works!! Take care of yourselves!
I tried this foot soak and I can honestly say it actually works. Im amazed at the difference. In glad I found this.
Isn’t it crazy how well it works?! Who would ever think that those 3 things would make your feet so smooth! Happy you enjoyed it – and thank you for coming back and giving me your feedback!
