It seems our pantry is always stocked with Oreo cookies. They are my husband’s weakness, and when he just needs that small sweet bite after a meal they always fit the bill. Oreo always seems to come out with holiday cookies, whether the filling is colored or flavored like peppermint, some are even dipped in chocolate; I love the mint ones straight from the freezer. But I have never seen anything quite as festive and cute as these dipped Oreos for Christmas in my local stores. Have you?

How to make easy chocolate covered Christmas Oreos

These Christmas Oreo cookies are fun and easy to make. Be sure to watch the recipe video for even more help and instruction!

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, wax paper, or a silpat mat.

In a medium, microwave-safe bowl, add the chocolate candy melting wafers (the type of candy wafer depends on decoration). Heat 1 minute at 50% power and stir. Continue to heat 30-second intervals at 50% power until melted, stirring well in between. Make sure there are no lumps in the chocolate and that it is smooth and easy to stir. You may also use a double broiler if preferred.

Place the Oreos on a fork and dip into the melted chocolate. Turn to coat completely in chocolate. When the entire cookie is covered with chocolate, lift it out using the fork. Tap the fork on the side of the bowl several times to let the excess melted chocolate drip off.

Slide the Oreo onto the baking sheet with a toothpick. Repeat with remaining Oreos.

Make the Reindeer:

While the milk chocolate is still hot, place 2 candy eyes for the eyes and 1 red M&M as the nose. Add 2 pretzels to the top for antlers. Let the cookie set completely. Repeat with remaining Oreos.

To Make the Polar Bears:

While the white chocolate is still hot, add candy eyes, and place 2 white chocolate candy wafer melts for the ears and 1 for the nose before pressing 1 brown M&M for the tip of the nose.

Make the Santa Suits:

Let the red candy coating harden completely before decorating. Using the gel writer or a fine paintbrush, draw a line across the lower center of the Oreo to resemble a belt.

Add a dab of melted chocolate to 1 yellow M&M to make the belt buckle then make the buttons by piping on dots or using candy pearls.

To Make Sprinkled Cookies:

While the chocolate is still hot, sprinkle with festive sprinkles. Let the cookie come to room temperature to set completely.

Fun Idea: add a mini Reeses cup to the top to make them look like an ornament!

Leftover chocolate-dipped Oreos will keep in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. You can freeze them for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature on the kitchen counter.
