It’s no secret how much I love anything pumpkin. But I will be honest and say that my sweet pumpkin recipes definitely outnumber the savory pumpkin recipes on my site. This savory pumpkin dip though? It’s been a game changer for me.
The funny thing is, why hadn’t I thought to mix up something like this a long time ago? I mean everything in that bowl just GOES together.
I have stacks of cookbooks and recipe magazines and clippings. Many of the clippings are organized by season and the fall stack? Well, it’s ginormous.
This summer, I started thinking about what I wanted to share with you when fall was upon us. (yes, this summer — us food bloggers are always months, seasons and holidays ahead of you, so you can have just the right thing for that fall party or tailgate, without having to wait.)
I came across a few different pumpkin dip recipes, but most of them were sweet. Some of them had more of an Asian flavor appeal to them, but I wanted something to go with the Sweet Potato Chips that I was making, as well as with other crackers and veggies, too. I nailed it with this combo.
How to make a Savory Pumpkin Cheese Dip with Bacon
The recipe calls for cream cheese, pumpkin puree, garlic powder, paprika, cheddar cheese, bacon and green onions. Nothing fancy, right?
Begin by creaming together the cream cheese and pumpkin with the garlic powder and paprika. Mix in the medium sharp shredded cheddar cheese, and last, fold in the onion and bacon. I reserved a little bit of onion and bacon to garnish the top, too.
Tip: The recipe is a great way to use “what’s left” of that can of pumpkin puree. Have you noticed that many recipes don’t use the whole can? I started putting it in the freezer in a ziplock freezer bag and taking it out as I need it.

The first time I made this savory dip recipe, I served it with celery and carrot sticks, as well as with crackers and bagel chips.
Then I had an excellent idea! What about serving it with some Sweet Potato Chips?
