This fluffy Chocolate Pudding Frosting is reminiscent of that Jell-o Pudding Mousse you had as a kid, only it’s frosting perfection when slathered over your favorite chocolate cake.

Chocolate Pudding Frosting

Do you remember the Jell-O mousse I am talking about?  The one all mom’s seemed to make in the 70’s and 80’s.  Instant pudding mixed with Cool Whip non-dairy whipped topping and then scooped into that graham cracker or Oreo cookie crust?  It was such a treat when I was a kid, and even now, I make it for my kids, and everyone can’t help but love it.

Cook Book

This recipe came from one of my oldest cookbooks.  This “Oh Taste and See” cookbook came from my Grandma when I was in high school.  It’s the one my Fuggedaboutit Roast came from.  That’s one of my most popular recipes!  Recently, I decided that it was time to dig it out again, and check out some chocolate recipes.

Stir to combine.  And just like that it’s done! Making frosting doesn’t get much easier than that, does it??

Chocolate Pudding Frosting

I slathered the pudding frosting all over a chocolate cake I baked in a 9×13.  If you have a favorite chocolate cake recipe, give this a try next time.  Or just use a box mix like I did.

Look how pretty this piece of cake is!! It would have been just fine to serve it just like this. But …. this is a chocolate event and that means ADD MORE CHOCOLATE!

I grabbed a Hershey bar from the pantry and made some chocolate curls for the top.  Viola!

  1. Hello! I’ll be trying your frosting for the 4th of July…a few questions (sorry if they’re goofy). I bought the larger box of pudding …will that work as well? Also, when I combine everything do I make the pudding 1st and combine everything or I just put the pudding powder in and make it that way? Thank you tons!!

    1. Sorry that I am just getting back to you, I have been on vacation for the 4th as well. There is a difference in ounces between the small box of pudding and the large one (not quite twice as much if memory serves me) you will need to increase the other ingredients as well.
