1box (2 crusts)refrigerated pie crusts, or your own homemade
1cupcherry pie filling
1egg + 1 Tablespoon water for egg wash
sugar for dusting
black piping frosting for decorating
toothpicks or cocktail picks
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the pie crust and cut out shapes using a gingerbread man cookie cutter. Re-roll scraps to make more.
Place half the cutouts on the baking sheet, spoon a little cherry pie filling (about 1-2 Tablespoons at most) in the center, brush the edges with egg wash, then top with another cutout.
Press the edges with a fork to create “stitches.”
Cut X’s for eyes and score little “stitch marks” if you like.
Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar, and bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden and flaky.
Once cooled slightly, use the black icing to draw on stitches and eyes. Add candy eyeballs, and poke a few toothpicks into your pies to complete the voodoo doll look.
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. To make them crispy again, just pop them in the oven for a few minutes before serving. Two pie crusts should make 7 (maybe 8 if you stretch it) pies. Don't use too much filling, or it will all seep out of the sides.
