Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 10 slices thick smoked bacon cooked, 2 pieces crumbled
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned pepper
  • 1 cup crumbled Bleu cheese divided
  • 1 large ripe tomato sliced
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • butter
  • mayo for serving

Instructions

  • Combine ground beef, 2 slices of crumbled bacon, 1/3 cup Bleu cheese, dry mustard, seasoned pepper and egg.
  • Form into 4 patties.
  • Butter the insides of the buns and toast them in a skillet.
  • Heat grill to 350 degrees and place burgers on the grill. Grill 9 minutes on each side. Internal temperature of the burger will be 160 degrees for a "well done" burger.
  • Place the burger on the toasted bun, add some mayo. Top with tomatoes, 2 slices of bacon and Bleu cheese.

Notes

No Grill? No Problem!

These burgers are just as delicious cooked indoors. Heat a large cast iron skillet or heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat. Add the burger patties and cook for about 5 to 6 minutes per side, or until the burgers reach an internal temperature of 160°F. If the burgers are browning too quickly, reduce the heat slightly and continue cooking until done. Toast the buttered buns in a separate skillet or directly in the pan during the last minute of cooking. Assemble with the tomato, bacon, bleu cheese, and mayonnaise as directed.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover cooked burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
To reheat, warm the burgers in a skillet over medium-low heat or in a 350°F oven until heated through. Store toppings separately for the best texture.
Uncooked burger patties can be prepared up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated until ready to grill.
